Embark on a captivating exploration of maritime history on June 12, featuring Dr. Akeia de Barros Gomes, titled “Exploring Entwined: Freedom, Sovereignty, and the Sea”. This session promises a thought-provoking journey through the millennia-old maritime cultures of the Dawnland (New England) and the African continent. Dr. Gomes will illuminate historical encounters and contributions, highlighting the resilience of Black and Indigenous communities in the face of colonialism and dispossession, emphasizing the role of kinship and community.
